Making Space
Few topics evoke stronger or more immediate responses within the global Body of Christ than the topic of sexuality, especially as it relates to the LGBTQ+ population. And yet, in keeping with our values as a mission, we must affirm the intrinsic value, dignity, and worth of each and every individual.
What would it mean for us to take a step back and listen and learn?
How can we come to truly understand those different than us?
How do we do this in a culture of "us vs. them"?
Our hope is that this leadership consultation will provide us with the space to explore these questions and more- to provide us with an opportunity to follow the Spirit's leading. While remaining aware of the challenges:

- We will learn from those who can help us see and understand aspects of the LGBTQ+ conversation we are unaware of or misinformed about.
- We will make space to hear the stories of those who have experienced the church's often well-intentioned but harmful treatment of LGBTQ+ people.
- We will work to root out any fear and shame that cloud our understanding.
- And we will seek to find way to work together to tear down the any barriers that prevent fullness of life for every person.
Our Speakers
Dr. Peter Enns (PhD, Harvard University) is Abram S. Clemens professor of Biblical Studies at Eastern University, St. Davids, PA. He has taught courses at several other institutions including Harvard University, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Enns is the author of several books, including, "The Bible Tells Me So", "The Bible and the Believer", and several others.
Dr. Wendy VanderWal-Gritter (MDiv, DMin) has served as the Executive Director of Generous Space Ministries since 2002. She is an internationally recognized contributor in the conversations around faith and sexuality, and is the author of "Generous Spaciousness: Responding To Gay Christians In The Church" (Brazos).
Pádraig Ó Tuama is a poet and theologian whose work centres around themes of language, power, conflict & religion. From 2014-2019 he was the leader of the Corrymeela Community, Ireland’s oldest peace & reconciliation community. He speak on topics such as poetry, religion, conflict, LGBT inclusion, & the dangers of so-called "reparative therapy". He spent several years on staff with YWAM.
